Selling your house? Where to begin? Do you want to sell your house by owner, FSBO? FSBO = For Sale By Owner? Or do you want to sell your house with a licensed real estate agent? The California Depart ment of Real Estate offers two types of liceneses; Broker and Salesperson.
Anyone with a "Salesperson" license must work under the supervision of a Broker.
What you agree to pay an agent is completely negotiable. I will say that again another way, any agreement you make with a real estate agent to sell your house is 100% negotiable.
If I were to guess, I would say that historically real estate commissions have been 5% to 6% of the sales price of your home. This can be a considerable chunk of change from your pocket. Is it necessary? Is it worth it?
As an indepedent Broker, I will discuss your needs, how quickly you want to sell your home, how much marketing you would like, how many open houses you want to hold etc. And I will discuss compensation plans with you.
Compensation can be "contingent" on the sale of the home or not. I am probably not the first, but I am probably one of the few agents willing to talk about hourly compensation.
